Why was Keith Olbermann suspended?

According to reports and blogs Keith Olbermann one of MSNBC's star anchors and the host of the show Countdown has been suspended without pay indefinitely. Phil Griffin president of MSNBC stated that the reason for Mr Olbermann's suspension was not due to the fact that he had donated money to three of the Democratic candidates but that he had done so without following NBC's policy of advising senior executives and obtaining prior approval.

Why is Keith Olbermanns suspension important?

Well for one thing Mr Olbermann is a fervent libertarian as demonstrated on his show Countdown he has been known to demolish other republicans, So with Fox News winning the rating wars, his suspension comes as a blow to most liberals as many believe that Fox news is favoring republicans and the political right. Fox News have stated in response that their guests on the shows may be conservative however their reporting is neutral.
